Internal servicing is key to fixing 'beachball' issues but it is often neglected.

Nearly all 'refurb' Macs offered for sale fall into this category because machines given a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth and a factory reset will look identical to a machine that has been properly serviced - but you'll never know.

The operating system too can accumulate redundant detritus that really

slows a machine up - especially if it was set up from new using
Apple's Migration Assistant. It's a convenient, simple tool but not very selective!
