Every Mac sucks in dust and fluff blocking airways and making the fans work harder to keep the Mac cool. Excessive heat is a computer killer.

A hot Mac can put strain on the processors causing them to throttle performance. If left, the machine will shutdown and randomly restart.
Please don't ignore the signs - you really don't want to fry the whole logic board.

All this can be resolved by renewing the thermal paste and pads that sit between the processor dies, VRAM and the heatsinks. Both paste and pads are designed to optimise heat transfer to the heatsink and on to the fans.
